So Simple

Matthew 22:37-40 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. (NIV)

It’s really so very simple.  We are to love God with all our hearts, soul and mind and love everyone else.  We like to make things complicated.  We like to exclude others.  We like to make all sorts of rules to our favor and liking.  We must look at ourselves and see how we’re doing.  If we really love God with all our hearts, soul and minds we would love and care for all God has ever made.  This not only includes all people, it includes all creation.  Do we really love all of God’s creations?  If we do, we will care for it.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone into the store and left my bags I the car.  I am usually too lazy to go back and get them so I use new bags from the store and contribute to the garbage collection that doesn’t decompose and litters the earth.  That is just a very small example of one of the many ways we don’t care for God’s creation.  Even worse is the way we don’t care for our fellow human beings.  Jesus said what we do to the least of one of these is what we do to Him.  That also includes what we don’t do for the least of one of these is what we don’t do for Him.  Let us get back to the core of what God has told us to do.  Let us love Him with all our heart, our soul and our minds and love all He created (people and things) as ourselves, demonstrating it by our care for all.
