Casting Lots

Acts 1:26 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles. (KJV)

This is the last time we read about casting lots in the New Testament.  This was a normal practice for trying to find the right decision.  What was wrong with casting lots?  For one thing, it was a game of chance.  For another thing, the apostles were told to wait for further instructions.  They were to wait for the Holy Spirit to come within them.  The lots fell on Matthias.  Nothing is every recorded about Matthias again.  God chose Paul to replace Judas Iscariot.  Today we are to not cast lots (roll the dice), consult game boards or consult mediums or the stars.  We are to ask God to reveal to us the answers we need.  He reveals them through the Holy Bible and through the gentle, inner voice of the Holy Spirit.  Sometimes I wonder if fewer Christians would have been killed or jailed by Paul if the apostles had waited for the Holy Spirit to tell them who was to be the 12th apostle.  Let us always look to the Holy Bible and the Holy Spirit for our directions.
