Use It or Lose It

Luke 19:26 26 “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. (NIV)

In the exercise world there is a saying, “Use it or lose it.”  The same is true in the spiritual world.  God has given each of us gifts for the purpose of serving Him and spreading His love and His Word.  The question we must answer is are we using the gifts God has given us?  When we use our gifts we become more adapt at using them.  As we use them in serving God we are able to increase our service.  There is also another saying, “Practice makes perfect.”  Though we will not be perfect nor use our gifts perfectly nor serve God perfectly while we live in our sinful, physical state, we can, through using our gifts, grow closer and closer to being perfect in the Lord.  Those new in the faith don’t know their gift.  As we grow in our faith our gifts will become obvious to others around us.  If you don’t know your gifts, talk with a believer who knows you.  They can help you identify your gifts.  Quite often we think our gifts are our natural talents and often they are in agreement with each other.  But, don’t close your mind to gifts far different from your natural talents.  I’m a professional musician by training.  God did use me in this way for quit a while.  I wasn’t trained in writing.  This was a big surprise for me.  Remember, with God, anything and everything is possible.
