As I Am Known

John 10:14-15 “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father (NIV)

What a wonderful promise.  We believers, called sheep by Jesus, are not only known by Jesus and the Father but we are to know Him just like the Father knows His Son, Jesus and Jesus know His Father.  Wow.  I don’t know about you but I feel like I have a long way to go to know Jesus and the Father as well as they know me.  I know God comes through on all His promises.  I look forward to knowing God that intimately.  I can’t sit ad wait for it to happen.  In order for God to fulfill such a promise we each have a part to play in the fulfillment.  To know God that intimately, we must know the word of God, the scriptures, the Holy Bible.  To know the Holy Bible we must read, meditate and put it deeply in our hearts and minds.  Not only put it in our hearts and minds, we must also live it in our everyday lives.  The only way to do any of this is with the help of the Holy Spirit.  Many refer to the Holy Spirit as “it.”  The Holy Spirit isn’t an “it.”  The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Godhead, Trinity.  We are to pray to the Father but we may also talk to Jesus and talk to the Holy Spirit.  Before we pick up our Bible we need to ask the Holy Spirit to open our minds and hearts that we may understand and apply what we read.  It excites me that I have the promise of Jesus that I will know God in the same way God knows me.  This is abiding.
