Lay Down Our Life

John 15:1213 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.   (NIV)

So often we take this to mean we are to physically lay down our life for another.  There is so much more to these verses than dying for another.  We are to lay down our pre-planed schedule for another in need.  Quite often we politely say, “If you need anything, let me know.”  We say that because it sounds loving and maybe we do mean it at the time.  However, when they call, we have made plans and respond to their need with we’re busy but let us know next time.  That isn’t laying down our life for another.  That is putting convenience and/or desire before others.  As we read scripture, we must be sure we listen to the Holy Spirit, letting Him give us the meaning for our time and place and letting Him show us were we need to change in order to really follow through on God’s word to us.
