As He Served

John 13:15 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. (NIV)

Jesus was the honored guest at the Passover Seder dinner yet He took off His robe, tied a towel around Himself and did the roll of a servant by washing the feet of the disciples.  Though He was the One Who should have been served, He did the lowliest of servings.  Then He said we are to do the same as He did.  No job is too lowly, too beneath us or too dirty for us to do.  We tried to teach of children when you see a piece of trash on the ground or floor, it doesn’t matter that you weren’t the one who dropped it there, you see it, you pick it up and dispense of it the right way.  How much more beautiful our road sides would be if we all applied that task to ourselves.  It’s the same with all other jobs.  We falsely think we are to be served by others.  We think it’s their job.  Many times we don’t even thank those who serve us.  Afterall, they get paid to do so.  Jesus, the King of All, the Son of God, the One we should serve, served us to the ultimate.  He gave His life for us.  Let us cultivate a servant’s heart in ourselves.  Let us watch and follow through where we can be of service, regardless of how inconvenient we may deem it to be.  Let us also be sure to thank those who serve us, regardless of how much they might be paid to do so.  Let us follow the example of our Lord.
