Philippians 2:5  In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: (NIV)

Here are instructions as to how we are to relate with our fellow human beings.  We are to have the same mindset as Christ Jesus.  What kind of mindset did Jesus have when walking in a human body on this earth?  We read further, (Philippians 2:6) Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.  We concentrate on the fact all men are created equal and that is right.  However, we are not to use our equableness in the wrong way. In verse 7 we read, rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.  Jesus too on the very nature of a servant.  We are not only here to serve God, we are here to serve one another.  Our own nature says we want to be served, not serve.  God’s nature says we are to serve, not be served.  We would rather be the guest of honor at a banquet than the server cleaning up after the banquet.  When we learn to serve, we find there is a special joy in knowing we have helped others.  That is the joy that comes from God.  Those who always find themselves being served loose what joy they have by becoming accustomed to being served and desiring it more and more to the point of never being happy with what they have.  Let us open ourselves to the very nature of God.  Jesus showed us the Father’s nature by serving through perfect love; serving all the way through death.  Let us die to our egos and serve one another.
