In His Image

Romans 8:29 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. (NIV)

God loves us just the way we are.  Before we come to Him through His Son, Jesus Christ, we are full of sin.  God loves us that way so much He sacrificed His Son for us.  When we have a baby, we love that baby just like he/she is.  We love the baby in spite of the dirty diapers, the spitting up, the crying.  We love that baby just as he/she is.  But even though we love the baby as is, we have predetermined the baby will grow to be more like us.  The baby will no longer be in diapers, spit up in our faces or cry very much.  This will not change our love for our baby.  It is the same with us and God.  Though He loves us in our very sinful state, He looks forward to us becoming more in His image as we grow with Him.  Our conformity to His image doesn’t increase His love for us but it does increase our love for Him.  Love deepens with coming closer in likeness.  Just as a marriage.  The early years are fun and we think we can’t possibly love any more than we do but, as we grow old together, we find the love has deepened with the more intimate knowledge of each other.  God does the teaching through His Holy Spirit and the Scriptures, the Holy Bible, as we become conformed to the image of His Son, but we must do our part by studying, meditating and learning the Scriptures and through 2-way communication with the Father.  It is through getting to know Him that conformity can come.
