As Judas

Matthew 26:50 50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.” Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. (NIV)

Jesus called Judas friend.  Judas knowingly betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.  Judas was in the habit of taking money that wasn’t his to take.  He served as the treasurer for the group of disciples and took whatever he wanted.  Judas’ motives weren’t good.  Judas was greedy.  Judas didn’t really believe Jesus as the Son of God.  As the steps to the crucifixion continued Judas began to question his own actions.  We don’t know what went through his mind.  Maybe the word “friend” said by Jesus echoed within him.  Whatever it was that was stirring within him drove him to suicide rather than to his knees.  I believe Jesus calling Judas friend was a hand reaching out to encourage him to repent.  We today betray Jesus through our own thoughts, words and actions or inactions.  We have a choice.  We can wallow in our sin or we cn get on or knee and repent.  Jesus calls us more than friends.  He calls us brothers and sisters when we ask Him to abide in us and we seek to abide in Him.  Let us not be as Judas.  Let us repent daily of anything we think, say, do or don’t do that would betray the love of Jesus abiding in us.
