Empty is Exciting

John 20:1-2 1 Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”

Picture yourself going to the cemetery where your love one is buried and finding the grave dug up and no casket.  How would you feel.  Imagine hoe the 3 women and the 2 disciples felt when they found the tomb open and empty.  It was very important to properly prepare a body for burial and they hadn’t had time earlier so they wanted to do it now.  What a shock.  They were still in shock from the crucifixion.  How could they handle anything else?  Most of them returned to the others but Mary stayed.  She was too devastated to leave.  Then Jesus said her name.  She knew immediately Who called her.  What an emotional ride that must have been.  As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus today, we, for the most part don’t get so excited.  We tend to forget it is like an anniversary celebration.  I know with me and mine, each increasing number became more exciting for so many around us don’t make it very long.  Just because we have known about the resurrection, just because we actually celebrate it every day in some form, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get excited on Easter and show our excitement.  Hopefully today we are each excited enough to tell someone He is still alive.  Jesus is alive in us through His Holy Spirit and we are alive in Him.
