1 Corinthians 7:17 17 Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. (NIV)

Please read the entire section from 7:17 to the end.  Paul is using marriage as an example but this word applies more than just to marriage.  It is common, when someone first comes into the reality of a real relationship with God through Jesus, they think they should become a missionary or a preacher.  They are running high on joyous emotion.  God calls each of us at different times of our lives.  There are a large variety of ministry to be fulfilled.  If one is a baker of cakes when coming into the fellowship of believers it doesn’t mean God intends them to leave the bakery business and go to some foreign country.  We can say it another way.  “Bloom where you are planted.”  There are times God will change the direction of our lives.  More common is our staying in the place where we meet God and growing in knowledge of Him as we learn to share His love with those, He sends our way.  Instead of wishing or even praying we were someone else with someone else’s ministry, let us be content where God has us, grow in Him and His love and share with each one He sends our way.
