Ezekiel 18:2 2 “What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel:
“‘The parents eat sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge’? (NIV)

To fully understand this verse, we must read the entire chapter of Ezekiel 18.  What it says to us is no one can pay the penalty of the sins of another.  The only One Who can pay the penalty of the sins of another is the only One without sin, the Word of God, Jesus Christ.  Each one of us is accountable for our own sin, not for anyone else’s.  Each one of us must come to the cross of Jesus, confess our sins, ask Jesus to be the ruler of our life and receive His resurrected body through the Holy Spirit in order to have the penalty of our sins transferred from our self to Him.  A parent can’t believe for their child nor can a spouse believe for the other spouse.  What we can do for another is to pray, share our testimony and encourage repentance.  Let us do our part to see no one is left without the saving and loving knowledge of Jesus Christ
