By Our Self

John 5:19 19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.  (NIV)

Wow.  Here is the Word of God, God’s only begotten Son saying He can’t do anything in and of Himself.  It is only what He sees His Father doing that enables Him to do it.  Since that is true of Jesus, the second person of the Triune God, how much more is it true of us.  We might say it isn’t fair.  There’s no way we can see what the Father does.  That isn’t accurate.  We see through the reading, studying and meditating on the written word, the Holy Bible, which God has so lovingly provided for us.  We see through the testimonies of others as they share what God has done for, in and through them.  We see through reflecting on what God has done in, for and through us.  Our problem is paying attention rather than making the false assumption we can do it by our self.  No matter what the task is at hand, let us always ask God for the wisdom in how to address it.
