Learn from the Past

Ezekiel 22:7-8 7 In you they have treated father and mother with contempt; in you they have oppressed the foreigner and mistreated the fatherless and the widow. 8 You have despised my holy things and desecrated my Sabbaths. (NIV)

God’s word to people and nations in the past also applies to us now.  As we read these verses we can see our own nation and culture going the same way.  Parents are being stripped of their parental rights in the way they raise and teach their children.  Immigrants (foreigners) are separated from their children and housed in very poor conditions.  Symbols of Christianity are being outlawed.  Children are forced to recite things against their beliefs.  We could go on and on.  The question is, what are we going to do about it.  If we sit silent and do nothing we must read on in Ezekiel and see how God disciplined those in Ezekiel’s time.  Our first and strongest weapon of defense which is actually an offence weapon is prayer.  It is the prayer of believers and followers of Christ Jesus that connect with the power in heaven.  Daniel’s prayer is a good example of that connection.  Along with prayer we must be willing to stand firm, speak out and follow the precepts of God.  Let us learn from those in the past.  Let us stand up for our freedom to worship God and to share His word with others.
