Father’s Day

Ephesians 6:4 4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.  (NIV)

Today is Father’s Day.  It too much longer for our culture to recognize the importance of fathers than it did recognizing mothers.  Fathers are very important.  Fathers stand as a symbol of our heavenly Father.  For those who had abusive fathers, it is hard for them to believe that our Father, God, could ever be loving.  They picture God as judgmental, angry or over-bearing.  It is so very important for every child to have a positive father-figure in their lives.  It might be their birth father, a step-father, a grandfather, uncle or even a close family friend.  On this day, let us take time to pray for the fathers we know that they will nurture, train and instruct their children in the way of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  Let us also thank God (and if still walking on this earth, our own father figure) for their part in helping us learn to know the love of God.
