Eyes Open

Luke 24:31 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.(NIV)

This verse is at the end of Jesus walking with 2 of His disciples as He explained the scriptures about Himself to them.  They walked with Him quite a while but their eyes were closed.  The didn’t recognize Who He was.  We must ask ourselves the same question.  How often are our eyes closed?  How often do we not recognize Jesus working in, through and around us?  We tend to keep our eyes focused on ourselves.  We miss so much as we are consumed with ourselves.  The saddest thing is we miss so much of what Jesus is doing in the here and now.  So, how do we keep our eyes open?  We can only keep them opened if they are already opened.  The first thing each and every day is to open our eyes to Jesus.  If we fail to get with Him, if we fail to recognize Him in our life when we first wake up, we quickly become consumed with distractions.  Let us learn to focus our eyes on Jesus before we allow our eyes to look elsewhere.  Let us ask the Holy Spirit within us to help us keep our eyes open and see all the amazing things Jesus will do in, through and around us throughout the entire day.  There is a song I like to sing called, “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus.”  It includes the words, “and the things on earth will grow strangely sweet.”  They grow strangely sweet because Jesus is in the things on earth.  It is through Him, the very Word of God, that the things on earth were created.  Let’s always keep our eyes open.
