Be Angry

Ephesians 4:26 26 “In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, (NIV)

There are 2 important things to note in this verse.  The first is we are not told not to be angry.  Instead we are told not to sin in our anger.  It is how we express our anger and to what we are angry that are called sin.  Remember how Jesus turned over the tables of the money changers in the temple?  He didn’t hit the money changers.  His anger was not at them but at what it was they were doing.  We are not to be angry with the person but with what it is the person is doing.  People sin out of their own past hurts or out of false teaching or deceptions.   The second thing we must notice in this verse is that our anger must be short-lived; the sun must not go down on our anger.  We are to deal with our anger right away.  We are not to harbor our anger.  Harboring anger brings about hate, bitterness, depression and can even bring about physical illness.  Being angry is not a sin.  How we express our anger and what causes our anger are the thing that can lead us into sin.  Let us learn to be wise in our anger.
