Ezekiel 36:1 1 “Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, ‘Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord.  (NIV)

When I first read this verse, I thought it strange God would tell Ezekiel to prophesy to the mountains instead of to people.  But as I continued reading, I understood.  The first half of Ezekiel is addressed to the mountains and the rest of the earthly creations of God.  God cares for what He has created, not only for mankind but for all His creation.  We are to care for all God has created as well.  How we live not only affects our relationship with God and with each other; how we live also has an effect on God’s earthly creation, what we call nature or habitat.  We are abusing what God has created.  We live in a throw-away world.  We waist so many material things and pay no attention to how we dispose of unwanted items.  For the most part, we don’t give it much thought. All the earth and all within the earth are special to God.  Shouldn’t it also be special to us?  Next time we purchase something, next time we use something, next time we dispose of something, let us remember how special all things are to God.  Let us learn to be wise in our use of all God has created.
