Be Holy

1 Peter 1:16 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (NIV)

The word “holy” means to be set apart.  God is holy because He is set apart from the world.  He has always been in existence and only through Him has everything else come into existence.  For us to be holy means for us to be set apart or God.  We are to be a vessel for God.  Jesus demonstrated this to us by the way He walked this earth.  He passed all glory to His Father.  He said He could only do what His Father wanted Him to do.  What about us?  Are we passing all glory to the Father?  Are we glorifying the Father through our words, actions and thoughts?  There is another verse that says whatever we do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord.  We, in our sinful nature, like to be the ones who get the credit for any good we might do.  To be holy takes discipline.  Let us remember we are set apart to be a vessel for God in whatever way He chooses.  Let us choose and earn to be holy (entirely) His.
