Ask Anything

1 John 5:14-15 14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.  (NIV)

We can’t read verse 15 without first reading verse 14.  So many want to just interpret verse 15 without the 14th.  Many get upset when they ask for things from God yet don’t receive them.  Sometimes it weakens their belief.  We are to ask according to God’s will.  His will is for our motive for anything we say, do or want be based on love for God and love for our fellow people.  This rules out self-indulgence.  God hears us when we ask in the right attitude—the right motive.  Whatever we ask, according to His will, we can have absolute confidence it will be done in His perfect time.  We must remember God’s time is different from our time.  We must also remember God sees all time whereas we can only see the present.  How wonderful it is, as children of God, that we can trust His wisdom and His timing for all things.
