Being Real

James 5:15-16 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.  (NIV)

Sometimes we wonder why, when we pray for someone to be healed, they aren’t.  We can’t read just a single verse.  We must look at verse 16 along with verse 15.  In verse 16 we see a condition that must be met.  When is the last time you joined with someone (other than your spouse) and both of you confessed your sins to each other before voicing your request to God?    According to verse 16, each one doing the praying for healing must confess their sins to the others who are joining them in prayer.  Most of us have a hard time with this.  We only want others to see our “good” side.  The last thing we want anyone else to know is what we are currently doing that is displeasing to God.  As with most of God’s promises, this one for healing comes with a condition.  Let us learn to meet the conditions of the promises we want God to honor.  Let’s be willing to be real with one another.
