Thanks for Food

Matthew 14:19 19 And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.  (NIV)

Many don’t say a prayer before they eat.  They don’t see any reason to.  Jesus gave thanks to the Father for the food before they ate.  If Jesus felt it necessary to thank the Father, being One with the Father, how much more is it necessary for me (or anyone else) to offer thanks to the Father for the food we/they are about to eat?  We tend to take food for granted.  We also tend to assume those who supply our food know we are thankful for their labor without our saying so.  I know when I do something for someone it makes me feel really good when they tell me thanks.  I don’t do it because I want them to thank me but because I love them.  We thank God for our food because all things come from God.  We know He loves us whether we thank Him or not but it’s nice to verbalize our thanks.  We don’t have to recite or say a long prayer of thanks.  Even a pause with a sincere thank you Father would be nice.  Whenever we eat and wherever we eat, let’s remember to pause and express our thanks to the One Who provides all we need to sustain our physical lives on this earth.
