Storms

Psalms 55:8 8 I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.”  (NIV)

We are visiting our son and his family and find ourselves preparing for a category 5 hurricane.  Many of us have been praying for God to turn the storm east out to sea where no one and no property can be damaged.  We know scripture says there will be more and worsening storms as we proceed through the later days of this present, sinful earth yet it is not wrong to ask Him to delay for the sake of those who are yet to enter into God’s family through His Son, Jesus.  But we submit ourselves to God’s plans, whatever they are and prepare to secure ourselves as safe as possible.  We know we’re in the hands of God and need not be anxious or worried.  We do our part like boarding up windows and removing anything from outside that might be a projectile in the wind, yet we are at peace.  When we know our Creator God, it matters not when storms assail us.  His peace stays deep within.  Storms aren’t always weather related.  There are financial, emotional, sickness and various other storms of life.  They serve to deepen our faith if we will only choose to trust God and listen to the Holy Spirit for directions in walking through the storms of life.  There is a chorus that summarizes it.  “Peace, peace, wonderful peace.  Looking down from heaven above…)  Peace is always looking down but we must look up to God to receive it.
