Walking on Water

Matthew 14:29-30 29 “Come,” he said.  Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.    But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” (NIV)

Most of us concentrate on Peter losing faith and falling into the water.  We must remember there were 11 other disciples in the boat.  None of them even thought about stepping out in faith onto the water to come to Jesus.  It took a lot of faith to make that first step.  So often we also have a surge of faith and take the first step.  But when we take our eyes off of Jesus and concentrate on looking at the trial as Peter did, we also lose faith and start to fail in our endeavor.  The quicker we refocus on Jesus rather than the trial at hand, the quicker we will arise above the water (the trial).  Faith is a matter of choosing where our eyes, minds and hearts will focus.  Let us choose to keep our focus on Jesus.  Let us always be willing to step out in faith when He says come (or go do…) for the Holy Spirit will always equip us with whatever is needed to walk on the top of the water of any trial or ministry that Jesus tell us to come.
