Seventh Day

Exodus 31:15 15 For six days work is to be done, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day is to be put to death.  (NIV)

The statistics tell the story.  More people are dying of heart attacks in their 30’s and 40’s.  We are working 24×7.  We have our cell phones on us and answer tests about our jobs 7 days a week and throughout each days evening and even into the nights.  Many go to church on Sunday mornings but the rest of the day is spent catching up with work – either our professional jobs or work maintaining all the material stuff we’ve accumulated.  God worked for 6 days then took the 7th day to rest from His work.  He designed us to need to do the same.  We are choosing to ignore one of the 10 commandments.  All the commandments are equal in importance.  God gave them to us for our good.  We must ask ourselves why we choose not to take proper care of our bodies, minds and spirits by ignoring this commandment.  Let us choose to take one out of every 7 days as a day of rest – real rest.  Let us honor all the commandments.
