1 Timothy 2:1-4 1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.  (NIV)

Read the above verses again.  We are to pray for those who legislate our government.  Not only for our own good but also for their salvation.  Judging from what has been going on in most all of the governments of all the nations, not enough of us have been doing this  We must ask ourselves how often we pray for the president, vice president, speaker of the house, our own various representatives and also those who legislate our state, county and cities or towns.  We must lift them up by name.  Each one has a name and each one needs to know God through His Son, Jesus in order to have His wisdom in the affairs of the various governments.  We might ask, how do we pray for them?  We ask the Holy Spirit to direct our prayers for each individual we lift up before the throne of God.  Yes, this is a long list of people to pray for along with our own families and friends but it is also necessary.  Praying every day for each one isn’t needed.  I pray for different people and causes on different days of the week so that by the end of the week I’ve lifted up each one.  God doesn’t mind if we use notes and calendars for our prayer lists.  Making a list just shows how serious we are in praying for the various needs.  Let us remember not to shirk our duty as Christians in praying for our governments along with our families, friends and all whom God puts on our hearts and minds.  Prayer is the best weapon in existence in bringing the Kingdom of heaven and this earth into unity.
