Imitators

John 5:19 19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.  (NIV)

This is Jesus, the very Son of God talking.  He says He can’t do anything by Himself.  He can only do what He sees His Father doing.  The son imitates the Father.  Even though Jesus said this, we still think we can do our own things.  We even apply our self-dependence and self-reliance into our ministries.  This is one reason we fail.  This is one reason we get so tired and many get burned out.  We forget it is only through the Holy Spirit residing in us as followers of Jesus Christ that any good can come through us.  Like Peter, we jump into something without taking the time to think.  When we stop to think, hopefully we will stop to ask God what it is we should do, how we should do it and when we should do it.  Yes, we read and study what Jesus did as He physically walked this earth but we fail to remember how often He drew apart to consult with His Father.  Let us learn to do likewise.
