Not by Might

Zechariah 4:6 6 So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.  (NIV)

This is not only the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel.  It is His word to us.  So many churches are instituting programs based on corporatians programs to entice more people to come their church.  So mand have built beyond their financial means and are looking to the ways of the word to bring in money.   They and many people involved in the ministry of the church – which includes all people who do anything in the church, not just those who earn money through their ministry – rely on their worldly wisdom to accomplish or try to accomplish their goals of increasing the numbers and/or the budget.  Then they wonder why their not working.   Increase to the Kingdom of God doesn’t come by man’s wisdom but by the power and Spirit of the Lord.  We can’t just pray God to bless our plans and effort.  We must ask, seek and listen to God’s plans and instruction of what and how to do when.  Not only are we to pray first; we are to listen and wait until we hear the answer.  Waiting on God’s instructions and then following them brings success and success brings glory to God.  Let us rely on the power and Spirit of God in all we plan and so and then go forth in His power.
