Just One Point

James 2:10 10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.  (NIV)

That’s a strong statement.  If we just break one point of God’s law we are guilty of breaking all of His laws.  Before we think we’re doing good let’s look at a couple of God’s laws.  You shall not steal.  Never took a pencil, pin or paper from our place of work?  Not a big deal?  It’s still stealing.  Never wish we had something someone else has, either materialistic or a talent of theirs?  That is still coveting.  We could go on and on but the biggest one we all have trouble with is loving all people on this earth (we are all neighbors) as we love ourselves and how about loving God with ALL our heart, mind and strength.  To be very honest with ourselves we must admit we fall short from time to time.  Praise God.  He knew we couldn’t keep every point of all of His laws so He sent His Word, His Son, Jesus Christ to pay the penalty of our sin.  As long as we have asked Jesus to dwell in us through His Holy Spirit and seek to follow and obey Him we are found not guilty.  God the Father no longer sees our sin.  He sees the blood and the righteousness of His Son.  Let’s be sure we share that good news with our neighbors, especially the ones we have trouble loving as much as we love ourselves.
