Faith and Deeds

James 2:14 14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. (NIV)

James 2:18 18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.  (NIV)

Because we are God’s children, and even though God doesn’t need our help with anything, He has made it that we are to be part of His working.  Faith is essential but, as the scripture says, faith without showing itself fulfilled through works is not really faith.  We can’t tell someone who is hungry, “I pray for you to be fed.”  God won’t instantly materialize food for that person because of what we just said.  He expects us to be His hands and give that person some food.  There are many times, when we pray, we are to wait on God to act, but there are also many times, when we pray, God expects us to act for He has equipped us to be His mouth, hands and feet.  He has enabled us to do this because He has put the Holy Spirit within us when we accepted His Son, Jesus Christ into our hearts, minds and lives.  Let us always be aware of the times God would choose to use us on one of those ways.  When we miss out, we miss an incredible blessing.
