God Uses the Least

Judges 6:11 11 The angel of the Lord came and sat down under the oak in Ophrah that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, where his son Gideon was threshing wheat in a winepress to keep it from the Midianites.  (NIV)

Judges 6:15 15 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”  (NIV)

Many Christians think they are too insignificant for God to ever do anything through them.  Take time to read through the 6th chapter of Judges.  Gideon was hiding in fear.  He thought himself the most insignificant of his family and his family very insignificant in compared to all others.  Yet God used him in a mighty way.  So mighty, He kept insisting Gideon decrease the number of people he would call into battle.  God wanted to demonstrate He is more powerful through us than any number of enemies that would try to come against us.  Gideon had questions for God.  He wanted to know why they were being troubled by enemies.  We have questions for God.  We wonder why we must go through trials.  Jesus told us there would be tribulation.  He said the entire world would be against us.  Matthew 24:9 9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me.  To us, the times of trials seem out of proportion to the times of blessings.  We only look at the short period of time we walk this sinful earth.  God sees eternity.  In our physical, sinful abode we are very short-sighted.  Let us remember 2 very significant things.  Our walk on this earth is very brief compared to the eternity we will enjoy in the very real presence of our God.  The second is God chooses to use the very least and insignificant among us for it is not our own talent or power but God’s power and wisdom through the least of us that wins the battle against the evil of this world.
