Power of Prayer

Luke 11:1 1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”  (NIV)

The disciples were with Jesus for 3 years.  They saw Him teach and heal.  They saw Him do miracles.  The only thing they asked Him to teach them in those 3 years was to pray.  They saw His example of how important prayer was to Him.  Prayer is the most important thing we can do.  It is through prayer that we find healing, answers to problems, direction for service and ministry and understanding of the scriptures.  Jesus definitely set the example of the need for prayer.  Many times the disciples couldn’t find Him because He had gone off to pray.  He even prayed through an entire night.  In Mark 6:46 He sent His disciples off into a boat and He stayed to pray.  The disciples had trouble with a storm and Jesus, after He had stayed to pray, walked on the water to the disciples.  Our question is how important is prayer to us?  Is prayer the first thing we do when we face a problem?  Do we pray and asked for understanding before we do our daily Bible reading?  The end of the above verse tells us even John, the Baptist, taught his disciples to pray.  John had quite an impact on people and evidently, he knew he had to be armed through the power of prayer.  2 Corinthians 10:4 tells us prayer is the power of God.  Let us learn to use the power God has made available to us.
