2 Timothy 2:21-22 (Message Translation)  In a well-furnished kitchen there are not only crystal goblets and silver platters, but waste cans and compost buckets—some containers used to serve fine meals, others to take out the garbage.  Become te kind of container God can use to present any and every kind of gift to His guests for their blessing.

I really like the way this translation puts it.  Some many want to own specific gifts of the Holy Spirit.  We can’t own those gifts for they belong to the Holy Spirit.  He allows us to use which ever one we need to accomplish a specific task for God (God working through us.)  We tend to want to shine above others.  We want what we call the showy gifts – the silver and crystal.  God wants us to be available to do whatever He needs, whenever and however.  We tend to want to shine.  We want others to see what God does through us.  Some of us even want others to think we’re doing these things on our own.  We are not here on this earth for the praise of mankind.   We are hear as God’s mouth, hands and feet.  If the toilets need cleaning in our church building who’s to say we’re not the one to clean them?   Right after we clean the toilets God may very well use us to feed a homeless person.  Right after that God may use us to bring a new soul into His family.  Just as we tend to put a value system on various sins (all sins are equal) we also tend to put a value system on the various tasks that need to be done on this earth.  What counts is being fully available to God for whatever, whenever and however.  It doesn’t matter if no one knows what God does through us.  God knows.  That’s what counts.
