Get Rid and Replace

1 Peter 2:1-3 1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good (NIV)

We are told here that it is our responsibility to rid ourselves of all malice, deceit (lies and extravagancies), hypocrisy (saying one thing and doing another), envy (jealousy and covertness) and slander (name calling and gossip).  We are all guilty of most of those.  How do we get rid of those sinful traits?  We feed on the Lord through prayer (2-way conversation with Him) and Bible study.  We search the Bible for the things on which we should be thinking.  It use to bother me that God knows every thought in my head.  Some of my thoughts aren’t very good.  But I have learned thoughts enter our head by what we see, hear and read.  Everything we see, hear and read enters our head as thoughts.  We are not responsible for what enters our head but we are responsible for what we do with what enters our head.  We are to push out – get rid of – the thoughts that are not in line with God’s word.  We do this by mulling over, continuing to think, and many times carry out the thoughts that are in line with God’s word.  Every time we are aware of a bad thought let’s immediately choose for our mind to dwell on a good thought.  We can rid ourselves of all malice, deceit, hypocrisy, envy and slander of every kind.  Refuse to read and listen to those thoughts and immerse ourselves in the Holy Writings from God – the Holy Bible..
