In Our Hand

Exodus 4:2 2 Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.  (NIV)

Moses held a shepherd’s staff in his hand.  It’s just a piece of wood.  It has no particular powers.  Yet this staff was used to turn a river into blood, spill water out of a rock, part the red sea.  God didn’t need to use a staff for those miracles to occur.  He could have had Moses just speak a word or even just do it without involving Moses.  But, God wants us to use what we have.  God chooses to work through what He has already given us.  Just like the parable of the talents, what we have only grows as we use them.  As joint heirs with God’s Son, Jesus, we are part of the work of God.  Even though it would be less trouble for God to do all things on His own, He loves us enough to want to involve us so we can participate in His joy and His blessings.  We all have specific talents and abilities God has given us.  Are we using them for the good of God’s Kingdom?  Are they growing?  Let’s think about what’s in our own hands and what we are doing with it.
