Knowing or Believing

John 3:16 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (NIV)

Believing that someone existed isn’t the same as believing IN the person.  When you believe IN someone you trust that person.  Trust is built on love.  When you love someone, you are loyal to that person.  It’s one thing to believe a person name Jesus Who was written about in a collection of books called the Holy Bible walked this earth but quite another to believe IN Jesus as the only Son of God Who, as God’s Word, put on the form of a God-created human and demonstrated God’s love and pan for us.  God, as the Creator of all that was, is and will ever be, calls the shots.  He is the One Who decided the only way for us to have fellowship with Him and eternal life is through believing IN Jesus Christ.  Reading the Bible, going to church and trying to be good on our own doesn’t cut it.  We must actually acknowledge we are sinners and can only be saved from the penalty of our sin through the blood of Jesus.  We must ask God to forgive our sins and welcome Jesus into our hearts, minds and lives not only as our savior but as the Lord, the director of our lives.  Later we read Jesus said if we confess our belief in Him before men, He will confess us before God the Father.  Our belief is personal but it isn’t privet.  We are to be open about our belief in order to follow the commission Jesus gave us; ( Matthew 28:19-20} 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (NIV)  Let’s confess Jesus before others and demonstrate His love through our words and actions.
