When I look at others

And see what they have

Am I pleased for their blessings?

Do I strive to have?

When I look at others

And see what they do

Do I turn green with envy

To do all that they do?

When I look at others

Lord, let me see You.

You are the blessing giver.

You know what to choose.

Help me grow to trust You.

You know what to choose

To give each child what they need

To bring each close to You.

Philippians 4:11

Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therein to be content.

Learn to be content.  This is not a natural state.  This is something, which needs to be nurtured.  This is a choice I must make.  I can choose to complain or I can choose to accept.  Part of learning is discovering what should be accepted and what I should strive to change.  Even when I must strive to change something I can do in a spirit of contentment.  There is the often-repeated prayer, “God, give me the wisdom to change the things I should and the patience to endure the things I can’t change.”  Patience and contentment go hand in hand.

Father, give me discernment about what I can change and what I can’t.  Teach me to be contented and to walk in peace and joy.
