Dark Valleys

Psalms 23:4 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Wherever we walk, whatever we have to face, even times of pandemics, God never leaves us.  We can totally trust Him for wisdom.  Wisdom says we wear helmets on bikes.  Wisdom says we wash our hands regularly.  Trusting God doesn’t mean we walk around care free without taking proper steps wisdom dictates.  When we walk in the wisdom of God there is nothing we need ever fear.  As long as we are listening, God will correct us when we start to go the wrong way and will lead us with His staff.  It is comforting to know God will keep us on the right path as long as we listen.  As the Hebrews were guided through the desert at night by a column of flame, we are guided in our dark times by the Holy Spirit Who is always in us and always ready to guide us.

Fire

Mark 9:49 49 Everyone will be salted with fire. (NIV)

We know God created us in His Image.  However, sin distorted God’s image in us.  We are also familiar with the verses about God being the potter and we being the clay.  In order for the clay to be formed into the image the Potter desires, it must remain flexible.  We must consider how flexible are we?  Do we hang on to an idea so hard that we refuse to listen to others or be corrected when it might be wrong?  As long as the clay is flexible the potter can mold and remold the clay until the right image is seen.  But the potter doesn’t stop with the shaping.  In order for the shape to be useful, the image must go into the fire.  As the image is painted, the process of being fired must be repeated with each coat of paint.  In the process of God reshaping us into His image, we go into the fire furnace many times.  Let’s not look at those times with dread.  These are productive times when different aspects of the Image of our Father are being set into us.  As the sinful aspects of our image are burned away, the righteous aspects of God are burned into existence in us.
