Genesis 2:8 8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. (NIV)

The word “garden” is in the NIV Bible 55 times. I encourage you to do a word study of that word.  The garden is a significant place for God.  It was in a garden He first placed man.  It was in a garden sin entered man.  It was in a garden Jesus frequently prayed.  It was in a garden Jesus was laid in a tomb.  It was in a garden Jesus rose from the dead and first appeared to man.  Gardens are beautiful places.  I was once in a church that created a prayer garden.  It had flowers, benches, a cross and was framed with memorial stones.  We even have hymns about gardens.  One hymn talks about a prayer garden.  Gardens represent beauty and many times food.  It is a beautiful place to retreat from the noise of civilization and be alone with God.  God didn’t have to create such a beautiful and colorful variety of plants.  Sometimes our heart Is referred to a garden.  It is the place where God planted the fruits of His Holy Spirit.  Gardens need to be weeded, watered and fertilized.  The garden of our heart needs to be weeded (recognizing and turning away from sin), watered (with the Holy Spirit) and fertilized (through meditation on the written word of God.}  We must check and see the condition of our garden.
