Hebrews 12:1  Therefore, since we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also get rid every weight and entangling sin.  Let us run with endurance the race set before us.  (Tree of Life version)

We all have triggers that set us off to do or say things.  Some triggers are good.  Some triggers get us back into habits, thoughts, words or actions we have been trying to get out of our lives.  It is important to identify those triggers. One of my triggers is having a container of ice cream in the house.  Since I’ve identified that trigger, I no longer buy ice cream to take into my house.  I do buy it when I visit one of my children’s houses, enjoy one dish with them and leave the rest with them.  Though this trigger is important to my physical health, it’s minor compared to triggers that lead us to fits of anger or other temptations that cause us not to reflect the love of God.  When we say or do something we know is wrong we must take time to identify the trigger that lead to that action.  It takes endurance to run this race of our walk on this earth in a way that will reflect the glory of God.  Let us perceiver with determined discipline

Ephesians 2:2 At that time, you walked in the way of this world, in conformity to the ruler of the domain of the air—the ruler of the spirit who is no operating in the sons of disobedience.  (Tree of Life Translation)

Old habits die hard.  When we first come into relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ, we are on an emotional high.  It is easy for us to be excited about getting into the Word, the Holy Bible and to pray and to worship.  Eventually our emotional high subsides.  Old habits slowly creep back into our lives.  This is one of Satan’s favorite weapons.  We must be careful in how we are walking.  Sometimes it’s hard to be different from others.  Quite often we want to blend in.  It is into Christ Jesus we are to blend.  It is His words to us we are to conform.  In and of ourselves we cannot do this.  We must rely on the Holy Spirit.  We must keep our ears open to His gentle whisper and our eyes and minds on the written word as our guide.  Let us not operate in the way of the world.  Let us live our lives as imitaters and followers of Jesus Christ.
