Pilate

Matthew 27:24 24 When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this man’s blood,” he said. “It is your responsibility!”  (NIV)

Let’s look at Pilate.  He has to report to Caesar on how he keeps peace in the country.  The crowd is in an uproar.  His wife has warned him not to have anything to do with Jesus.  He hasn’t heard any substantial evidence that Jesus is guilty of anything deserving of death.  He is confused.  He is scared.  It’s looking like the crowd might riot.  He gives way to the majority even when the facts don’t agree.  We believers and followers of Jesus are in the minority in today’s world.  Are we going to be as Pilate had the ability to stand firm for the innocence of Jesus?  He cowered to the majority.  Where are we in our willingness to stand strong on God’s Word?  Will we let others change the definition of marriage instituted by God?  Will we let others decree genders are optional?  Will we let others tell us we can’t pray, share our faith or read and quote the Bible?  Let’s not be as Pilate.  Let’s stand firm on the Word of God.

Time to Listen

Luke 10:41-42 41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (NIV)

We are to work for the furthering of God’s Kingdom.  For some of us our problem is we are so busy working we fail to spend one on one time with God.  John Wesley was a good example for us.  The busier his schedule was going to be on a given day, the earlier he arose to have his one on one time with God.  When our cars don’t have enough fuel they can’t get us to our destination.  When we fail to spend one on one time with God each and every day, we don’t have the “fuel” to work for the furthering of His Kingdom.  We need His daily instructions.  We need to hear His encouraging words each and every day. We need His love to fuel us to move forward.  We don’t have the power in and of ourselves to serve God.  We don’t have the love within and of ourselves to reach out in love to others.  Yes, we are called to work like Martha but not without first choosing the time Mary chose to be in the actual presence of God and listening to Him.
