Chosen Kingdom

Luke 4:18-19 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. (NIV)

The Kingdome of God isn’t a realm like our nations in this world.  The Kingdome of God is a rule.  God is sovereign.  He is the Kingdome.  After Jesus rose from the dead, those who accept Him as the Son of God are indwell by the Kingdome of God.  The Jews knew what Jesus was saying when He read these verses and said it is now fulfilled.  Jesus was saying He is the Kingdome of God.  Our question for us today is how much space do we give the Kingdome of God?  God desires our entire heart and mind  He wants every bit of us  We must see what we are holding back from Him.  We must see what parts of the Kingdome of God we are not allowing to flourish within us.  Yes, there is a real place called heaven and it also has the Kingdome of God there for God is the Kingdome.  Everything that was, is or will ever be are contained in God.  The Jewish leaders at that time wanted to be head of their own kingdoms.  The kind of Messiah they wanted was a physical warrior that would raise them up to be free from the Roman kingdom into a kingdom of their own choosing.  We mut decide what kingdom do we choose.  We can’t be divided into multiple kingdoms.  We are either completely in the Kingdome of God Who is in us or we are not.  Which do you choose today?

Growing Up

Matthew 18:3 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  (NIV)

A little child know they are totally dependent on their parents.  They trust the love and provision of their parents.  That is how we are to come into the family of God.  We are to trust in the love and provision of God knowing our inability to walk through this life on our own.  But we are not to remain as little children.  So many Christians think after they accept Jesus Christ and follow with baptism and join a church, they can just coast through life.  Life is a school for us to learn our jobs in the Kingdom of heaven.  We can only do this through regular study of the scriptures, the Holy Bible< God so lovingly provided for our education and instruction, through prayer – 2-way conversation with God the Father and through learning to walk according to the instructions we read and study.  As with the accepting to walk through the door Jesus provided for us, it is also up to us if we will choose to grow up as co-heirs with Jesus.  Let us choose to grow up.

John 14:23 23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.  (NIV)

God has 2 homes.  His first home is in His heavenly Kingdom.  His other home is within each and every believer.  The question we must ask is do we welcome Him into this home?  Do we make Him feel comfortable and loved in this home?  David did.  He expressed it many time in Psalms like this one.In Acts 17:28 we read, 28 ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’  Not only are we in Him, living and moving, He is also in us.  Another question we must ask ourselves is are we living and moving in unison with God?  This is only possible when we allow God, in the Person of His Holy Spirit within us to really lead us in all we think, say and do.  In order to hear the Holy Spirit we must read and meditate on the written word, the Holy Bible, which God so lovingly provided for us.  The Holy Spirit will never tell or lead us to do anything that is in contradiction to the instruction given us in the Bible.  Our life on this earth is a school preparing us for the primary home of God, the Kingdome of Heaven where His throne sits.  Let us learn and practice what we learn.

Prayer for Today

2 Chronicles 20:6-12 “Lord, the God of our ancestors, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you. 7 Our God, did you not drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham your friend? 8 They have lived in it and have built in it a sanctuary for your Name, saying, 9 ‘If calamity comes upon us, whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine, we will stand in your presence before this temple that bears your Name and will cry out to you in our distress, and you will hear us and save us.’10 “But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir, whose territory you would not allow Israel to invade when they came from Egypt; so they turned away from them and did not destroy them. 11 See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession you gave us as an inheritance. 12 Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.”  (NIV)

This is the pray Jehoshaphat prayed when his nation was facing an overwhelming enemy.  I have rewarded it these last several days as I’ve prayed for our nation and the world.  You might want to try to reword other prayers in the Bible to apply to our current trials.

Lord God, Father of Jesus our Savior.  You are the God in heaven and you rule over all the earth.  You alone have the power and might and no disease or virus can withstand You.  Our God, You have healed in the past.  Virus has come upon this world.  We stand in Your presence and bear the name of Your Son, Jesus.   We cry out to You in the midst of this pandemic.  Hear us.  Use this pandemic to turn eyes and minds and hearts to You and save us.  We do not know what to do but to look to You for wisdom ad healing.

Kingdom In Us

Luke 17:21 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (NKJ)

Luke 11:2 2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: “‘Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.  (NIV)

We pray for God’s kingdom to come every time we say the Lord’s prayer.  Jesus said the kingdom of God is within us.  The us is those who have accepted Jesus in their hearts, minds and lives.  God’s kingdom is within us because, the moment we allow Jesus unto our lives the Holy Spirit enters us.  Our problem is recognizing the Holy Spirit, listening to the Holy Spirit and allowing the Holy Spirit to direct our thoughts, words and actions.  Jesus described what God’s kingdom is like.  As we read the 13th chapter of Matthew we can get a better understanding of what the kingdom of God is like.  Then we must look at ourselves and see if our thoughts, words and actions fit the descriptions of the kingdom of God.  Comparing these descriptions of the fruits of the Holy Spirit go hand in hand in determining how much of the kingdom of God we display in our lives.  Let us be sure there is nothing within us blocking the kingdom of God being in us in a way that shines out to those around us, giving them a desire to come to know our risen Lord, Jesus Christ.
