Righteousness, a Gift

Matthew 6:33 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.  (NIV)

Unlike salvation, we can’t choose righteousness.  Righteousness is only found in Jesus.  Righteousness is something He gives those who choose salvation.  It is His righteousness that robes us.  It is Jesus Who gives us His righteousness.  There is nothing we can do in and of ourselves to be righteous.  While we are in our earthly bodies we continue to battle our natural sin nature.  Through our choice of salvation and our continual repentance we maintain the robe of the righteousness of Jesus.  Because of Jesus and the righteousness with which He robes us, God sees His righteousness on us and the penalty for our sinfulness is forgiven and put out of sight.  Righteousness costs us nothing but it cost Jesus more than we can ever imagine.  He had to separate Himself from His Godliness and become fully human to experience all we experience yet totally without our willfulness to sin to show us how much God loves us and desires for us to be with Him for eternity.  There is no way we can every imagine how much that cost Him.  Let us continually praise and thank Him for the great and glorious gift of righteousness which He so costly had given to all who choose salvation through Jesus.

2 Corinthians 7:10 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.  (NIV)

Salvation is offered by God through His Son, Jesus Christ.  Salvation is something we choose.  God doesn’t push it on us.  We must choose to accept salvation through believing in God’s Son, Jesus Christ and turning our backs on the sins of this world.  We choose to worship, praise and obey God and His statutes.  There is no salvation without repentance.  There is no other way for salvation from the penalty of our sins except through the Son of God.  It might not seem fair to us that this is the only way.  We falsely think a loving God would give salvation to everyone regardless of what they believe.  God is God and God makes the rules.  Because He is Love, He desires and offers salvation to everyone and has provided the way to salvation.  It is up to us to choose to accept the way He’s provided.  I pray you have learned the difference between believing Jesus is the Son of God and moved to believing IN Jesus as the Son of God and as your way to salvation.  He is simply a matter of choice – your choice.
