Living In Us

Romans 12:1 1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.  (NIV)

We tend to forget our physical bodies contain the Holy Spirit.  It seems we take more care with the condition of our church buildings and our houses than we do our bodies.  As I walked the aisles of a mega-store I noticed everything in the middle of the aisles, all the products they were featuring and trying to get us to buy, were not healthy items.  When is the last time we’ve seen fresh apples or some other healthy and nutritious food featured in a center aisle?  Satan loves it.  Keep temptations in front of our eyes and make it seem normal to indulge.  We must learn to treat our bodies as we would the body of our Lord and Savior.  We are accountable for the condition of our bodies, minds and spirit.  Let’s feed our bodies with healthy, nutritious food, our mind take in healthy, uplifting information and our spirits drink thirstily from the written word of God, the Holy Bible.  Let’s have the Holy Spirit living in a temple fitting for Him.

Recognize Satan

Ephesians 6:12 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.  (NIV)

There are Christians who don’t believe Satan really exists.  So many think their struggles are because of others or the culture or their own mistakes.  They are their own mistakes in that they don’t recognize the deceptive voices of Satan.  Satan would have us believe the lie that the Holy Bible is outdated.  He would tell us to get with the times.  He is the one encouraging Christian denominations to accept same-sex marriages and gay and lesbian lifestyles.  These are strictly forbidden by God.  God created male and female.  He did not create a third category of gender.  One of our problems is we confuse the sin from the sinner.  Because of our verbal attacks on the sinner rather than the sin, we are producing more enemies of God.  Notice when Jesus turned over the money tables in the temple He didn’t attack the money changers, only what they were doing.   There are many other lies of Satan that we tend not to recognize.  That is another reason why it is so important for us to really make God’s written word, the Holy Bible, an active part of our minds.  Let us really know God’s word and ask the Holy Spirit to help us distinguish the voice of Satan so we can stand firmly against him.

Bodies Are Temples

1 Corinthians 6:19 19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; (NIV)

I was recently at a health fair.  There was a room full of tables with people representing various types of health companies and vendors.  At most of the tables there were dishes of candies, cookies, cupcakes and various other snacks.  I thought it a little strange for a health fair to have so many non-healthy enticements.  Since our bodies are temples for the Holy Spirit, we should be treating our bodies with respect.  That incudes more than healthy eating.  We need to feed our bodies with good food but also with exercise and with quiet moments of meditation with God through the Holy Spirit.  So often it is the quiet moments we fail to have.  My favorite form of exercise is what I call my prayer walk.  As I walk through the neighborhood, I tell God how much I appreciate the beautiful world He created. I pray for the people in the houses as I pass.  It is a quiet time for my soul while, at the same time, it is beneficial to my body, a temple for God’s Holy Spirit.  Let us remember our bodies are on loan to us for while we walk on this earth.  Let us care for them according to how the Owner would have us do.
