2 Timothy 1:5 I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

So many of us look to Proverbs 31 as an example of a good mother. Here Paul is writing Timothy. He gives credit to Timothy’s mother and grandmother for Timothy’s faith. It appears not only did the teach Timothy about Jesus and God, they also showed him through their lives. As mothers and grandmothers we have an important role in the lives of our children. We start teaching them about God’s love the first time we hold them. As they grow they watch us. I’m sure Lois and Eunice did more than teach and demonstrate faith to Timothy. I’m sure they did a lot of praying for him. The question of teaching and demonstrating is fairly obvious. Our question today, on Mother’s Day, is are we praying for our children and grandchildren with the intensity of God’s love? Pray for at least one child today and have a blessed Mother’s Day.

blessedDeuteronomy 4:39 Acknowledge and take to heart this day that the LORD is God in heaven above and on the earth below. There is no other. (The Holy Bible, New International Version).

We all have choices to make every day. Today I had to choose if I would walk, what route I would walk and how long I would walk. Before that choice I made a choice before I got up from bed. I had to choose Who would own the day—Who would direct my schedule. It would be easy to just “go with the flow” with the various demands on my time. But this day doesn’t belong to me. This day belongs to God. It is He Who made the day. He has only loaned the day to me. I can choose to take the day as my own and do what I want with it or I can choose to be a willing vessel for God to use His day through me in the way that is best for His glory and His purpose. Each of us must choose. The question is whose day do you choose this to be? . When we choose self a lot of it is wasted and cannot be recovered. When we choose God we are blessed.

Luke 11:28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Jesus said this in response to a woman who said it was His mother who was blessed. He said those who hear the word of God and obey are the ones who are blessed. Sometimes we think we would be so blessed if we were in the physical presence of Jesus and could really look into His face. He says the blessing comes from hearing and obeying God. We are each given the ability to hear and obey God the moment we accept His Son, Jesus, as our Lord and Savior, confessing we are sinners, receiving forgiveness and receiving His Holy Spirit into our hearts and minds. As we learn to walk in obedience and hear Him speak within us, we learn we are blessed. We can look into His face every time we look into the face of another believer. We do this by looking in the love of God at each other. We miss it because we look critically or jealously at other believers rather than looking with and through God’s love. When we feel inadequate in and of ourselves we want to see others critically. As we walk with God we realize we are inadequate in and of ourselves. It is only to the degree that we allow God to flow through us that we find adequacy. Paul wrote, “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.” This is so true. Our question is are we willing to hear and obey and allow God’s Holly Spirit to flow through us enabling us to do all things through Him? Let’s get on our knees, confess our inadequacy, accept our inadequacy and ask Him to flow through us and love through us.
