Content Not Packaging

Hebrews 10:7 “Then I said, ʻHere I am: I have come – it is written of me in the scroll of the book – to do your will, O God.ʼ”

A friend is a pastor of a church where they won’t let him read scripture from his lap top or tablet.  They insist he can only read scripture from a bound book.  It seems they are more interested in the covering rather than the content  Scripture was first written on stone then on papyrus rolled into scrolls.  Jesus read from a rolled up scroll.  What really matters is whether we read and study the scripture.  It can be on an expensively bound book with gold trimmed pages, on a computer, a tablet or a cell phone.  The packaging doesn’t matter but the content does.  It is the same with us.  Our packaging is not as important as our content.  When people look at us are we presenting an outward package that commands their attention away from God’s Light within us?  We are taught to accent our positive parts of our body.  Our question is are we accentuating the positive parts of our inner being – God’s Holy Spirit and the fruits of His Spirit growing within us?  Let us be sure we spend more time on our content rather on the packaging.  Reading and studying God’s written Word can be done on whatever device or printed form is available and readable for us.  Them more types of packaging we have of His Word the more available it is for us to have with us and use.  The more we use His Word the more it get’s into our hearts.  The more it gets into our hearts the more it can be reflected and shined to light the way for others.

A Good Book

Psalms 119:11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

I just finished reading a very good book. It was one of those books that’s hard to put down. When I finish reading a book like that I miss it. I wish there were more of it to read. I have an even better book I read. Sometimes it’s very hard to put it down. No matter how many times I read it I always find something I missed the last time. I can read it cover to cover and yet there is always something new. This book is called “The Holy Bible.” If it were the only book every written nothing would be lacking. Other books are nice, entertaining, informative but none of them can be read as many times as the Bible and always bring us to a new truth. If the Bible is not our first picked, most read book we are probably reading a version using words we don’t relate with. There are many translations of this magnificent book. We can go to a bookstore or on the Internet and read various versions to find the one, which is written in our manner of speaking. It is also good for us to have several different translations. Our question is do we really believe this book is written by God through His Holy Spirit? Do we really want to read what He has to tell us? Do we really understand it is His love letter to us? Before I was married we lived in separate states. Long distance calls were expensive so we wrote letters to each other every day, sometimes 2 a day. When I got the letters I would read them over and over. My love was so intense I wanted to take in every word and make it part of me. How intense is our love for God and His Word?

God Is Watching

Pr 5:21 For a man’s ways are in full view of the LORD, and he examines all his paths.

We full ourselves when we think God won’t notice all of our actions.  We may be able to hid some of the things we do from others.  We may even be able to deceive ourselves on what we ourselves are doing from time to time.  I know I’m very good at rationalization.  God is always with us.  When we are on our computers God is with us watching.  When we watch TV God is with us watching.  When we read a book God is with us watching.  The question is are we comfortable with what we are doing, watching or reading sitting along beside God?  Let’s think about that next time we pick a movie, go on the internet or read a book.  God is watching.
