Show the Doorway

Matthew 24:33 So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, at the very gates.

It’s hard not to hear the news. We are surrounded by media talking or writing about fires, floods, earthquakes, wars, rumors of wars, family members killing other family members and on and on. They even discuss if the earth is about to end. Jesus said only God the Father knows when the earth will end; Jesus doesn’t even know. But He did say we can recognize the coming season of the ending. We don’t know how long it will take. We do know it will come. The end of this earth will come as will the end of each life. We can’t change it but we can change the outcome for others. There is only one way God has provided for the eternal continuation of our lives. This is through coming to Jesus, God’s only Son, confessing we are sinners and receiving His forgiveness as we make Him The Lord of our lives through love and obedience. We can share this with others. Our question is are we sharing this news? Do we really care about the future of others? Do we care that God cries over any lost soul? We may not be in a position where we can decide what to do about a group that kills people with chemicals but we each have the power to share the doorway to eternal life with God.

One Thing

Luke 18:18-21. And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother. ’” And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.”

Here is a privilege person who, to others, appears to have everything he could ever want or wish for. Yet, this man wasn’t satisfied. He knew he was missing something in his life. He was missing the assurance of eternal life. He knew he obeyed all the laws but felt that wasn’t enough. Jesus confirmed the man’s doubt. Jesus said, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” The man walked away sad. Even though he wanted eternal life he did not want to give up his riches and power. We all have something of this world we hold on to. Our question is what is it in this life we are hesitant to give up? It is that thing we hold dearly that keeps us from emersing ourselves in the love of God. We should not take this lightly. We each should pray and listen and allow God to reveal to us the one thing we lack.

Spiritual Bodies

John 17:3. Now this is eternal life – that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you sent.

We experience eternal life as we experience God. We tend to think of life as our physical bodies. Our physical bodies are not us. They contain us. God is Spirit and we were created in His image which makes us spirit. Our question is are we willing to stop being so consumed with our physical bodies and feed and tend our spiritual bodies? This is short but meditation. The reality of this needs to be deep until it becomes a reality in our minds. Take one extra time today meditating on some scripture and open yourself up to His Holy Spirit helping you see the scripture you’re meditating on in a new way experiencing the love and wisdom of God.

Pressing On

Philippians 3:14. with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

The goal Paul is referring to is the experiencing of God. With this goal in mind he strives toward it. This is God’s upward call for each of us. We attain it through our experiences with Jesus through His Holy Spirit. Paul tells us to forget what lays behind us and move forward. So many of us hang on to our past. We hang on to hurts, mistakes, goals in-attained and many other things. We have a hard time living in the now. Jesus told us in Matthew 6 31-34 to not worry about the tomorrows. Our question is are we willing to concentrate on this day, using it to push on to our goal of experiencing God in every way He brings to us so that we may really know Him and really become one in Him?

Believe In

John 3:16. For this is the way God loved the world:He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

This is the best promise in the Bible but often misunderstood. There is one very little word on which this promise hinges. That word is “in.” Many people believe Jesus is the Son of God. The devil even knows Jesus is the Son of God. We are not told we are just believe Jesus is God’s Son. We are to believe IN Jesus. Believing someone is who they say they are and believing IN someone are not the same. We can believe someone is who the say they are without trusting them or having faith in them. When we believe IN Jesus we say we trust Him with our lives. We are willing to follow Him wherever He might lead us. We have no doubt that all He says is true. Our question is do we really believe IN Jesus or do we just believe He is Who He said He is?

Not Everyone

Matthew 7:21. “Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, will enter into the kingdom of heaven-only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

You can be a church member all your life and still not know God. I know. I was. I never missed church. I served on all sorts of committees. I directed many events and ministries. I served as a paid employee. Yet I didn’t know God personally. I did believe Jesus came to this earth as God’s only begotten Son but I had no concept of Him as Lord. He was basically my insurance policy for eternal life. I would pray for situations then work hard to bring them around in my own strength. I was taught I had the ability to do anything I wanted and if I wanted it done right I must be the one to do it. What an amazing change took place in my life when someone shared with me the meaning of Lordship. Now Jesus is my director through His Holy Spirit. My heart aches for so many church members who think membership and attendance is all that is required. My heart aches for God when Jesus has to tell Him a person is not His. The question is do you really know Jesus as your Lord? Do you let Him direct your life? If so, are you sharing this with others around you? Through God’s Holy Spirit we have the power to let others know. Oh that all will come to really know Jesus as Lord.

Imitators

Job 42:5. I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye has seen you.

Job obeyed God’s commandments because he was taught to do so. We can also obey through teaching. God wants more than obedience. God wants our fellowship, our love and our worship. Our question is do we think if we live good, moral lives we will have eternal life with God? God says our good works are as filthy rags. We sinful beings cannot be good enough on our own. It takes seeing God with spiritual eyes given us by His Holy Spirit. We don’t see Hod in a physical sence but we see Him in a spiritual sence. We see His love, power, forgiveness and character. When we see God this way we realize how really filthy we are. How do we get clean enough for fellowship with God? There is only one way. The way is through the shed blood of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus as our Lord ans Savior our filthyness is covered with His blood and our sins cleansed through forgiveness. Then, with the help of His Holy Spirit we can learn to imitate the way He walked on this earth. We learn to become “little Christs” which up is what the word “Christian” means.

Resurrection

Mark 16:8. Then they went out and ran from the tomb, for terror and bewilderment had seized them. And they said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.

We see this day as a day to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.  The disciples didn’t feel that day.  They were already confused, disappointed and feeling guilty.  The missing body of Jesus just led to more confusion.  In the current political climate the feared the Romans had hidden Him.  Even though Jesus had told them several times what would happen they were unable to comprehend.  It was one thing raising Lazarus from the dead but raising Himself after such physical devastation was incomprehensible.  Today we have the witness reports in the Bible and confirmation of the Holy Spirit so we believe and can celebrate.  What better way to celebrate than to share with someone how to have eternal life with God.  Our question is, will we do it?

Stones Cry Out

Luke 19:39-40. But some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if they keep silent, the very stones will cry out!”

The palm branch has long been a symbol of victory, triumph, peace and eternal life.  It’s origins can be traced back to the ancient Near East. In The Jewish culture the palm is associated with the festival of Sukkot. A palm branch was awarded to victorious athletes in ancient Greece and a palm frond or the tree itself is one of the most common attributes of victory in ancient Rome.  For Christians the palm branch is associated particularly with Palm Sunday, when palm branches ate waved in memory of the triumphal entry of Jesus to Jerusalem.  This is a day for us to rejoice and praise Jesus.  No one on that first Palm Sunday realized what would happen a few days later.  The religious leaders demanded Jesus keep the crowd from praising Him but He responded the stones would shout praises if the crowd was silenced.  Our question is are we less able to shout praises to our King than the stones are?  Let us sing with full voices and hearts.  Let us pray with full voices and hearts.   Let ua put our all into worship and praise of Jesus, our Lord and our King.
