Fickle Heart

Hebrews 3:12 See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

Few Christians ever admit to having a sinful, unbelieving heart or that they every turn away from God. Actually we tend to have fickle hearts. Many only go to church when it is convenient for them. Many only occasionally open the Bible to read, let alone to study. Many are very fickle in their prayer life, only thinking about talking to God when they have a really big problem. We need to guard against inconsistency. Being too tired, too uncomfortable or too inconvenienced is no excuse to not worship, serve and obey God. Consistency takes discipline. Discipline takes effort. Effort takes motivation. When we tend to want to slack in our obedience to God we must think of what God has done and is doing for us. Our tiredness, inconvenience or uncomfortableness doesn’t compare to what Jesus walked through in our place. When we stop to really reflect on the price paid for our forgiveness we find our fickle hearts ebbing and motivation for consistency in commitment gaining. Our question today is do we have a fickle heart today or this week? Let us guard against it. Let us continue to go in the living God’s direction.
