Luke 21:34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap (The Holy Bible, New International Version.).

So close to the cross and feeling the antagonistic atmosphere around Him Jesus still teaches and gives warnings about places and things which can cause us separation from God. From time to time we find our minds and hearts full of the anxieties of life. We live in the “what ifs” and “when this then this” mentalities. We fail to pay attention to the spiritual. We stay distracted. Jesus will return at an unexpected time. No man knows when. No man knows when he or she will draw their last breath on this earth. Jesus warns us to be careful. As He said in Matthew 6 we are not to be anxious about tomorrow. We are to live in the here and now. We only have our present time. What is past is past and we cannot revise it. What is ahead is ahead and we can’t mold it to come to us at our liking. If our hearts are to be weighed down it is to be with God’s sadness over loosing one soul. What are we doing to prevent that? We have the power through His Holy Spirit to live and example of the joy of God and to speak of Him to those around us. Will they believe us? Not if our lives show worry and anxiety over the future. Our question is what do others see when they look at us? Do they see the love and peace of Jesus or do they see more of the worry and anxiety of the worldly life? It’s our choice. What do you choose?

1Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it (he Holy Bible, New International Version)

Sometimes this verse is hard to believe. We may know in our mind God puts no more on us than we can bear and that everything must first pass through His hand but sometimes it doesn’t appear so. We know God has the power to intervene in all things but sometimes it appears He does not. Sometimes it is because we fail to see His intervention. Sometimes it is because we refuse His intervention. God has chosen not to force man to respond to Him. We may go through life not understanding why many things happen to our loved ones or us. At those times we must choose to trust God. He is faithful and all knowing. We only know the present and the past and that knowledge is filtered by our emotions lack of complete information and/or vision. God knows all past, present and future and has complete information and perfect vision. Next time we face a trial let us remember all is not always as it seems and God is faithful to move us through any trial or temptation we might face if we will only look for Him.

Mt 24:7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places.

God’s word tells us that the sign of ending times would be the increasing of natural and man-made disasters.  He also tells us we are to prepare for His Kingdom to come on earth.  We need to be more concerned about preparing for His Kingdom here on this earth more than we are to be concerned about natural or man-made disasters.  How are we to prepare for His Kingdom?  We need to make sure we love the Lord our God with all our hearts, mind and strength and our neighbors.  We need to be sure our lamps are letting His light shine brightly, we need to be sure all around us have heard about God and His Son, Jesus, and have seen and felt His love through us.  We may think one of the most important things we can do for our future is to put money in an IRA.  In actuality the most important thing we can do for our future is obey God, love God, worship God and share God with others.  Be sure you share God with someone today.  Opportunities are all around us.

Don’t Look Back

Ge 19:26 But Lot’s wife looked back, and she became a pillar of salt.

Lot and his family were told not to look back.  They were told to flee the city so full of sin and keep their eyes straight ahead.  So often we find ourselves looking back.  We think: what if I had done different, said different, reacted different or if only…etc.  Past is past and we cannot change it.  Future is future and we cannot control or guess what it holds.  We live in the here and now.  We need to be fully present where we are: present with our minds, emotions and actions.  God wants us in the present.  The past is under the blood of the cross and the future is in His hands.  We are to keep our eyes on Him and what He is telling us to do right now.  Let us determine not to look back.  Let us look at the present and at our Lord, God Who has all things (including us) in the palm of His hand.
