2 Corinthians 3:18. And we all, with unveiled faces reflecting the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, which is from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

From time to time I am tempted to copy a devotion I wrote several years ago or re-preach a sermon from years past.  Who remembers what they read in the past or what was preached?  But I can’t.  Each day I am being changed or transformed into a new image.  Each day I open up to the glory of God more of Him shows through me.  What I wrote or spoke a week ago has been altered to what god would have me speak or write today.  It is the same for each one of us.  We either grow or we die.  Living beings, just like all living things, cannot stay stagnant and live.  Our question is are we willing to allow God to change us each and every day or do we choose to shrivel up?  He changes us through prayer, Bible study, circumstances, what we see, hear and speak.  There is a chorus that sums it up
“From glory to glory He’s changing me, changing me, changing me.  From earthly things to the heavenly, the love that God’s shown to the world.”  May we each always be pliable for God’s continued work in and through us.

Jeremiah 29:11-14 For I know what I have planned for you,ʼ says the LORD. ʻI have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope. When you call out to me and come to me in prayer, I will hear your prayers. When you seek me in prayer and worship, you will find me available to you. If you seek me with all your heart and soul, I will make myself available to you,ʼ says the LORD.

I was relaxing, watching a program called “Reflections” on TV which contains beautiful scenic videos with calm music and scripture verses.  Part of this scripture came up on one of the scenes.  God’s Word, the Bible, is full of promises.  Many of the promises were said to individuals, like this one, but are meant to apply to each one of us.  God loves each of us just as much as He loves Jeremiah.  He knows what He has planned for each one of us.  His plans are not only for our good but for His glory as well.  There is a catch to His plans for us.  We are called to call out and come to Him in prayer.  It is in the attitude of prayer that He hears us.  It is in the worship of prayer that we find Him available to us.  When we seek Him with all our heart and mind, reallly seek Him above all else with undivided attention we will find Him with us.  Our question is do we really want Him with us enough to really seek Him out?  Our choices are ours to make.  How we use the time alloted to us is our choice.  Seek the Lord and spend time with Him

Rear Guard

Isaiah 58:8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. (The Holy Bible, New International Version)

This verse follows verses about feeding the poor and helping those in need. The verse talks about looking at the needs in front of us and ministering to the glory of God. As we go forward we need not worry about what we leave behind. Our son served as the “Rear Guard” when his unit was sent to Iraq. His job as rear guard was to take care of any of the problems the families of the troops deployed encountered while their love ones were busy serving our country. God says He is our rear guard. We are here to minister in His name and to His glory to the ones He places before us. He will be our rear guard. He will see to our needs. Our question is are we so busy looking behind us that we fail to see what God has put in front of us? Let us learn to push on, serving God with what He presents to us and leaving what’s behind in His hands.

Ro 15:6 so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We celebrate the 8th day of Advent – the start of our 2nd week.  We are told to join together with one heart and collectively, as one mouth, glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  When we are together with other Christians what do we do with our mouths.  We seem to find a lot to talk about and even some things to disagree about.  We spend a good bit of time talking to each other.  How much time do we spend speaking and singing praises to God?  How much time to we testify to His glory by giving Him praise for what He has been doing in and through us since we last met?  Let us on this day share with more than one of God’s love and give Him the glory for what we have in our lives – freedom to do this.  There are so many things He has given us and blessed us with.  Let us glorify Him – not so much because of what He has given us as more for what He has done for us – the One Whose birth as a man we prepare to celebrate.

While It Is Day

John 9:4 As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.

We must do the work of Him who sent us.  Who is it that sends us to work?  Jesus sends us.  He sends us to work for the preparation of bringing His Kingdom on earth.  What kind of work is this?  It is the kind of work that brings glory to God.  One of the best inspirational books I’ve read is “Practicing the Presence” by Brother Lawrence.  It is a free e-book now and much worth the time of downloading and reading.  It tells how even a simple, menial task can be done to the glory of God.  Our question is how are we using the time God gives us?  Is all we do glorifying Him or is it being wasted?  Night is coming.  Let us not only be ready ourselves but help others be ready.

Turn from Disobedience

Ru 4:13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife. Then he went to her, and the LORD enabled her to conceive, s  and she gave birth to a son

Ruth was faithful in doing all Naomi told her and God blessed her obedience.  He blessed her so much she conceived a son and through her genes we can trace the descendents all the way to Jesus.  Ruth is one of the few women cited in the geneology of King David and of Jesus.  When we turn from our idol worship and follow God He will use us for His glory and through His use of us we are greatly blessed.  The question is what is God asking of us today?  What disobedience do we need to confess and receive forgiveness for so we can walk the path God has for us?
